Sick of scraping Weetabix off the floor or trying to chip it out of the baby’s hair? Ever wish breakfast would be a little more zen and a lot less manic?
It’s time to experience brunch East-London style.
We’re talking cocktails (sometimes bottomless!), ambient restaurants and fabulous flavour combinations to wake-up your tastebuds.
Brunch is typically a more indulgent experience than breakfast, a chance for a leisurely read of the weekend papers or a more relaxed setting for a work meeting. And many restaurants are catering to the parent-pound with buggy space and kid-friendly brunches too.
We’ve been eating our way around East London and are very happy to offer our top six brunch destinations (in no particular order!).
1. The Lacy Nook (Cazenove Road, N16).
Launched by childhood friends Jana Miseva and Elena Smileva, The Lacy Nook is one of Hackney’s best kept secrets. The food is beautifully presented. The brunch menu includes:
Smashed avocado, with squash salsa, goat curd & sourdough
Smoked salmon, scrambled egg, labneh & beetroot-spinach spelt pancakes
Cave aged cheddar pancakes, maple cured bacon, poached egg & urban honey

2. Andi’s, Stoke Newington Church Street
This pretty, characterful restaurant, which boasts a beautiful walled garden is run by TV personality Andi Oliver and her business partner Kelly Miles. The Brunch menu, which also features breakfast booze, includes:
Homemade vanilla and lavender granola
Baked Burford Brown eggs with a choice of accompanyments such as roast garlic and onion, streaky bacon, smoked haddock and goats cheese
Energy bowls (pulses, chopped sautéed greens, roasted seasonal vegetables and avocado mash.

3. Wolf, Stoke Newington High Street
A sanctuary amid the bustle of Stoke Newington, WOLF is a neighbourhood restaurant that celebrates authentic seasonal Italian food. The brunch menu includes bottomless cocktails or prosecco from 12pm-2pm.
The brunch menu includes:
Oat and nut granola with plums and yoghurt
Beef shin hash with fried eggs, chilli, oregano and parmesan
Fennel Sausage with deep fried egg, flat gnocchi and caramelised Tropea onions

4. The Good Egg, Stoke Newington Church Street.
One glimpse of the queues out the door is all it takes to know this place has nailed brunch. Food here is inspired by Middle Eastern, Jewish and Mediterranean cuisines. Their brunchtime cocktail menu is also pretty special. The brunch menu includes:
Iraqi Aubergine Pita with eggs, tahini and dak dak salad,
Shakshuka (baked eggs) with tomato, peppers and preserved lemon yoghurt.
Bacon and egg pita with date jam and pickled cucumber and mango amba
5. Bernstein’s, Chatsworth Road
This popular bar brings a taste of Jewish and Middle Eastern cuisine Co-founder and head chef Adam works recreating his grandmother’s recipes from a tiny, open kitchen – and the food is magnificent. Brunch is served from 10am on Saturday and Sunday and the menu, which changes weekly, includes
salt beef, which has been cured in house,
Shakshuka (eggs poached in tomatoes with lamb sausages),
Scrambled eggs

6. Dishoom, Shoreditch.
This feisty, modern Indian restaurant serves legendary brunches – but get there early, this place is popular and for good reason. Brunches include:
Kejriwal (Fried eggs on chilli cheese toast)
Keema Per Eedu: this Parsi power breakfast includes spicy chicken keema with chicken liver, runny fried eggs and Sali crisp-chips.
Bombay Omelette (with chopped tomato, onion, coriander and green chilli with green tomato and fire toast).
